Former Ajax player, Quincy Promes has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his cousin at a family party.

The 29-year-old Dutchman reportedly committed the crime back in July 2020 at the scenic town of Abcoude, Amsterdam. He was arrested in mid-December the same year, but was released after two nights of being held in custody.

He was, however, tagged as a suspect by the police as at that time. Promes had gone ahead to continue his football career – though he had to leave Ajax for Spartak Moscow. The case which seemed to have been swept under the carpet eventually resurfaced after a Dutch prosecutor stated that the player will be tried for the allegation which he had intermittently denied.

According to the prosecutor, Promes was seen “seriously wounding” the victim by stabbing him. Several witnesses had also confirmed the occurrence of the incident.

The married father of three started facing charges in November, 2020 after an investigation led to him being charged of either attempted murder or aggravated assault.

Meanwhile, the date for the court hearing is yet to be decided.
