A massive fire has engulfed the Ladipo pako market in Orile, Lagos state, destroying several shops and properties.

The fire, which started on Tuesday night, was reported at 11:45 p.m. by the residents of the area.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it deployed fire teams from four stations to the scene, with support from the Federal Fire Service and LASEMA.

The director of the agency, Adeseye Margaret, said the fire was difficult to contain because of the flammable materials in the market, such as wood polish and building materials.

She said the cause of the fire was still under investigation, but assured that no casualty was recorded.

She also said the agency would conduct a mop up exercise and assess the extent of damage caused by the fire.

The Ladipo market is one of the largest markets in Lagos, known for selling auto spare parts and accessories.

It was recently reopened by the state government after it was shut down for violating environmental regulations.
