Finidi George Steps Up as Super Eagles’ New Head Coach

The Nigeria football federation has appointed Finidi George as the new Head coach of the senior men national football team,the super eagles.

Finidi steps up the role following the expiration of José Vítor dos Santos Peseiro’s contract as the Super Eagles’ coach, which he opted not to renew.

Finidi George who was born in April 15,1971 in port-Harcourt rivers state of Nigeria. As a player,he played as a right winger and was known for his pace, accurate crosses, efficient dribbling, and free-kick abilities.

He played for three clubs in Nigeria including Calabar Rovers and Sharks of Port Harcourt.

Internationally, George made his debut for Nigeria in 1991 and earned 62 caps appearing at the 1994 and 1998 world cups.He played a vital role in Nigeria’s triumph at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and contributed to their progression to the round of 16 at the 1994 World Cup, notably scoring against Greece.

Reacting to the appointment, Instagram user @tomi_isin, commenting on the NFF Instagram page stated “Recent winners of the AFCON, Euros, Copa America and WC are all managed by coaches from their country. Home based is the way plain and simple. Best of luck to him”.
