A tragic incident occurred on Monday at the Gombe State University (GSU) when a final year accounting student, Abubakar Muhammad Adam, died shortly after collapsing in the exam hall.
Adam, who had the registration number UG18/ASAC/1113, was taking his 400-level exams when he suddenly slumped and was rushed to the university clinic by his classmates and some university officials.
However, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the clinic staff.
His body was then taken to the specialist hospital mortuary with the university ambulance.
According to a statement issued by his classmates on social media, Adam’s uncle, who is the headmaster of Kamara Primary School in Bolari and his only guardian in Gombe, joined them at the mortuary and contacted his father in Jos.
The statement said that the father and other relatives of the deceased were on their way from Jos for the burial, which will be conducted tomorrow.
The cause of Adam’s death is still unknown and the university authorities have not issued any official statement on the matter.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Mua’zu, said that the police has not been informed about the incident and will investigate it once they receive a formal report.
