FIFA orders NFF to pay heavy compensation to Gernot Rohr

The Federation of International Football (FIFA) has ordered the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay former Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, a compensation of $378,000 (about N157 million) within 45 days.

In December 2021, the NFF sacked Rohr appointment, four weeks before the kick-off of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The football body had cited the poor performance of the Super Eagles during the AFCON qualifier as the reason for terminating the appointment of the 68-year-old manager.

Meanwhile, both NFF and Rohr had initially agreed that his salary would be paid until the expiration of his contract in December 2022.

Dissatisfied with his unlawful sack, the embattled Super Eagles ex-coach approached FIFA to report a breach of contract by the NFF.

A FIFA tribunal decision saw Rohr’s claim to be “partially accepted insofar as it is admissible” and ordered for the payment of his compensation.

“If full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the respondent [the NFF] shall be imposed a restriction on receiving a percentage of development funding, up until the due amounts are paid,” the body said.
