The Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks to be used in Nigerian schools from 2026 to 2028.
The first phase of the exercise covers Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1 and SS 1, with each approved textbook assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code to aid identification, monitoring and accountability.
The ministry said the list followed the completion of the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise, which was conducted under the supervision of Education Minister, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, and Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad.
Under the new system, details including the textbook title, author, publisher and year of publication are attached to the tracking code.
The ministry said the QR-based system is intended to strengthen transparency in the selection, procurement and use of textbooks in schools.
Among the titles approved for Primary 1 are STAN PLACE Mathematics, Eduwaves Mathematics, New Mathematics, Extension Modern Mathematics, New Waves Mathematics, Marvelous Mathematics and Royal Intensive Mathematics, according to TheCable’s review of the released list.
For Primary 4, titles including Reddot Complete Primary Mathematics, Everyday Mathematics and Smart Mathematics are listed, while approved JSS 1 Mathematics titles include Meybiks Mathematics, Digital Mathematics, New Excellent Mathematics, Ideal Tutor Mathematics, Progress in Mathematics, New Concept Mathematics and International Brainy Mathematics.
The exercise will continue in phases. The second phase will cover Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2, with the same ranking and tracking system to be applied.
The Federal Government had earlier announced that, from September 2026, only textbooks assessed, ranked and approved under the new system would be authorised for use in public schools nationwide.
The ministry has therefore urged schools, publishers, education authorities and procurement agencies to consult the official list before selecting or purchasing textbooks for the affected classes.
The complete 2026–2028 list, including the QR tracking codes for individual titles, has been made available by the ministry.
