The Peoples Democratic Party is hoping on the judiciary to upturn the victory of the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s Lagos East senatorial bye-election, BlackBox Nigeria has learnt.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the APC Candidate, Tokunbo Abiru, as the winner of the election having polled 89,204 votes. His closest rival, Babatunde Gbadamosi of the Peoples Democratic Party scored 11,251 votes.
Information from the PDP’s camp indicates that the opposition party is optimistic about a favorable judgement by the court. According to sources, the PDP expects the court to disqualify Tokunbo Abiru, and upturn his victory at the polls.
Recall the PDP and its candidate, Babatunde Gbadamosi, prior to the election day, filled a suit before the Federal High Court, Lagos seeking for the disqualification of the APC candidate over his alleged possession of two voter cards and violation of Section 31 of the Electoral Act.
In response, the APC, through their lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) filed a preliminary objection, praying that the suit be dismissed.
The said matter will be heard in court before Justice Chuka Obiozor, on December 9.
