The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, sentenced a former chairman of now-defunct Pension Reforms Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina to eights years imprisonment.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Okon Abang stated that Maina was found guilty of money laundering charges, saying he stole over N2 billion belonging to pensioners.
“I find the defendant (Maina) guilty and convicted in count 2, 6, 9, 3, 7 and 10,” the trial judge said.
Justice Abang further held that the court also found him guilty of concealing his true identity as signatory to accounts opened in UBA and Fidelity Bank by using the identity of his family members without their knowledge.
These accounts were said to have cash deposits of N300 million, N500 million and N1.5 billion.
Maina was tried on a 12-count money laundering charge filed against him by the the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Recall that the court, about a month ago, jailed Maina’s son, Faisal, after finding him guilty on all three counts of money laundering involving N58.1million in public funds.
