Ex-commissioner emerges new Lagos PDP chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has elected Philip Aivoji as its new chairman.

Aivoji, a former Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism in the state, emerged victorious at the Lagos PDP congress held on Sunday.

He polled 839 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Amos Fawole, who scored 816 votes. Other candidates include King Okuneye who got 56 votes; Niyi Adams with 29 votes, while Adetokunbo Pearse and Abiodun Adebiyi both scored zero vote.

Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri who served as the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, announced the results on Monday, describing the conduct of the exercise as transparent and open.

“As Chairman of this committee, I hereby declare, Aivoji Philip Olabode as the Chairman-Elect of the Lagos State chapter of the Lagos PDP,” Diri said.

The rescheduled party congress of the Lagos PDP produced the newly elected state executives.
