End of the road for Oyetola as Adeleke wins Osun guber poll

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke has won the just-concluded governorship election in Osun State.

On Sunday morning, the Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, announced that Adeleke polled 403,371 to defeat the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who secured 375,027.

Out of the 30 LGAs in Osun, the PDP flagbearer won 17, while the remaining 13 went to the APC candidate.

Adeleke won Atakunmosa West, Obokun, Boluwaduro, Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Ifelodun, Ife North, Ila, Ilesha West, Irepodun, Odo Otin, Olorunda, Oriade, Orolu and Osogbo.

The incumbent governor secured Atakunmosa Eest, Ife Central, Ife East, Irewole, Isokan, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Ilesha East, Boripe, Ifedayo, Iwo and Ola Oluwa.

For Oyetola, it’s end of the road as his bid to occupy the Oke-Fia Government House for another four years has officially hit the rocks.

In the 2018 election, Oyetola won the hotly-contested governorship election. He polled 254,345, while Adeleke got 254,698 vote, leaving just a gap of 353 votes. The poll was declared inconclusive and the APC eventually won the rerun held in some LGAs.
