Embattled CJN, Tanko Muhammad resigns

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad has resigned from office.

It was gathered that the CJN stepped down on the grounds of ill health.

Report has it that arrangements are being made to appoint the next-highest ranking justice of the Supreme Court, Olukayode Ariwoola, as Chief Justice of Nigeria in acting capacity.

Tanko’s resignation comes a week after 14 justices of the apex court wrote a protest letter over his alleged poor leadership, corruption as well as unbearable working conditions.

Other issues mentioned in the letter include unreplaced official vehicles, no increment in budgetary allocations in over 4 years, lack of provision of qualified legal assistants, deteriorating healthcare of the Court, exclusion of the justices from the management of the court’s affairs and epileptic power supply.
