Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring his intention to seek re-election under his new party.

His resignation letter was announced during plenary on Thursday by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

El-Rufai, who chairs the House Committee on Banking Regulations, said his decision followed careful consideration and was driven by his commitment to delivering quality representation to his constituents.

“I am now a member of the ADC, and I will be seeking re-election to continue representing the good people of Kaduna North Federal Constituency on this platform,” he stated.

The lawmaker also revealed that two other federal lawmakers: Hon. Suleiman Richifa (Soba) and Hon. Umar Ajilo (Makarfi/Kudan) have joined him in moving to the ADC, describing the shift as the beginning of a “people-focused” political movement.

A son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Bello said his political choices are guided by “courage and conviction,” adding that his priority remains effective service delivery.

He reassured constituents that his defection would not affect ongoing constituency projects, including a newly unveiled Primary Health Care initiative aimed at improving access to basic medical services.

According to him, the programme will begin with the distribution of essential medical supplies, including 1,000 syringes per Primary Health Care Centre, starting with facilities in Unguwar Sarki Ward and Badarawa/Malali Ward.

He added that an ad hoc committee to oversee the initiative would be announced soon.

El-Rufai concluded by expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future and prayed for divine guidance in leadership and governance.
