The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) Plc and its director, Zavyalov Dmitry, over alleged money laundering offences involving ₦582.43 million.

The defendants were arraigned on Monday, October 12, 2026, before Justice O. A. Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/644/2025.

According to the charge, ALSCON and Dmitry allegedly failed to report several transactions from the company’s account to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML), as required by the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The transactions, which reportedly occurred between March and July 2024, included payments of ₦147.52 million in March, ₦156.03 million in April, ₦121.43 million in May and ₦127.34 million in July, all made to UDATSON Nigeria.

The charge also listed a transfer of ₦15.12 million to Urico Global Services in April 2024 and another payment of ₦15 million to Christopher Azogu in June 2024.

The EFCC alleged that the failure to report the transactions violated Section 11(1)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. The commission said the alleged offences are punishable under Sections 11(3), 19(2)(b) and 22 of the Act.

Dmitry was reported to be at large at the time of the arraignment.

When the charges were read, ALSCON’s Acting Managing Director, Ime Monday Inyang, entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of the company to all six counts.

The company’s lawyer also urged the court to quash the charges, maintaining that ALSCON was innocent of the allegations.

Justice Egwuatu subsequently adjourned the case until January 27, 2027, for the commencement of trial.

The allegations have yet to be established in court, and the arraignment does not amount to a conviction.
