EFCC Arrests Five Suspects for Illegal Possession and Conveyance of Solid Minerals

Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended five individuals for the possession and conveyance of three truckloads of assorted solid minerals believed to have been mined without proper licensing.
The arrested individuals consist of three truck drivers and two truck boys, captured along Maraba road in Ilorin, Kwara State, and Ogbomosho, Oyo State, during operations conducted on March 21 and 22, 2024.
Acting on credible intelligence and conducting surveillance, EFCC operatives intercepted the suspects while they were transporting solid minerals, suspected to include marble stone, white powder, lithium, and lepidolite, to Shagamu and Alakija in Ogun and Lagos States, respectively, for commercial purposes without the required licenses.
This latest arrest follows a previous operation on February 5, 2024, where the Ilorin Zonal Command apprehended 41 individuals involved in suspected illegal mining activities.
Also, during that operation, authorities impounded 12 truckloads of assorted minerals that were mined without proper licensing.
Upon the conclusion of investigations, the apprehended suspects will face charges in court.
