Troubled Senator, Dino Melaye is back in the news

There was a mild drama at the National Assembly on Tuesday as the Senator representing Kogi West evaded and escaped being served a petition from his constituents on his recall by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Melaye and his aides have since deserted his office in the National Assembly complex and were no where to be found while INEC waited at door. Meanwhile Melaye would later appear at plenary but left hurriedly a few minutes to 2pm. While the INEC officials sighted him and went on his chase, the Senator quickly made it to a waiting car packed by the main door of the complex and sped off before he could be reached.
The drama over his recall continued after a court gave the electoral body a go-ahead to move on with the recall process of the controversial senator.
Melaye however believes he has no case to answer as INEC has failed to complete the process within 90days as stipulated by law.

In a statement he recently released, Melaye said “The 90-day period, as provided for in the constitution for conducting the referendum (after our verification), elapsed by effluxion of time on the 23rd day of September 2017.

“The time, as provided for in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having elapsed by effluxion of time, I, Senator Dino Melaye, cannot and shall not under any circumstance, aid and abet INEC to further desecrate and infringe on the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which I have sworn to defend.”

He further revealed that he has taken his case to the Appellate Court.
