In a shocking turn of events during a Parliamentary probe, tragedy struck as a senior Customs officer collapsed and passed away while addressing questions from members of the Public Accounts Committee at the House of Representatives .
Identified as Essien Etop Andrew, was present before the committee as part of an ongoing investigation.
Sadly, he experienced sudden health complications during his testimony. Despite immediate efforts by first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he succumbed to the health episode.
House spokesperson Akin Rotimi confirmed the officer’s passing in a statement, expressing profound sadness over the loss. He stated, “It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of the Nigeria Customs Service who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House Committee.”
The House of Representatives extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased during this challenging time. They acknowledged Mr. Andrew’s significant contributions to the Nigeria Customs Service and the nation.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD., conveyed his condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a dedicated public servant. Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time.”
