Declaring June 12 Democracy Day Is One Of The Best Decisions of Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration – Omotunde Sanuth

In the words of Omotunde Sanuth, an aspiring lawmaker from Alimosho Constituency 2, the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to recognise June 12 As the true Democracy Day in Nigeria is one of the best decisions the administration has made.

Omotunde who is vying to represent the people of Alimosho Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly said she will ensure the tenents of the June 12 struggle are institutionalised in here constituency when elected.

“Permit me to on behalf of the Omotunde Sanuth Campaign Organisation commend the tenacity of President Muhammadu Buhari in declaring June 12 Nigeria’s true Democracy Day and cancelling the pseudo May 29 foisted on Nigerians since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

Even though, I was young when the struggles took place, I have lived through it all since my conscious adult life participating in different students struggles organised to keep the memories of the martyrs of June 12, 1993 alive and this declaration is indeed a joyful news.

The conferment also of a posthumously highest Honour in the land, GCFR, to the late Chief MKO Abiola, a GCON to his running mate, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, and also a GCON to the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, whom I called the gayfly are testament that fighters of our democracy did not die in vain.

I salute all those who contributed immensely to the achievement of today’s democracy, without your sacrifices, we would still be under the mindless rule of a military Junta.

In Alimosho Constituency 2, I promise we shall not only celebrate but keep the tenents of this day alive. In democracy we survive.
