Customs Arrest Three Persons Involved In Importation Of Pump-Action Rifles

The Nigeria Customs Service yesterday released the names of three persons that have been traced to be importers of the containers that contained the pump action rifles intersected in Lagos.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Ahmid Ali told members of the press that Mr Mahmud Hassan, the Clearing Agent, Mr Oscar Okafor, the importer and Mr Sadique Mustapha, an escort, are the three arrested so far in connection to the imported rifles.

While briefing the press, the Comptroller General explained that contained in the cache of firearms was one of the latest rifle that takes up to 10 cartridges of the pump action and imagines the damage each of it will cause when in the wrong hands.

He also noted that Customs officials who were involved in the clearing of the containers and other clearing agents have also been arrested.

It was reported yesterday that the 40-feet container was intersected in Apapa area of Lagos on the 22 of January when the special unit of the Customs Service was on patrol.

Ali noted that the pump action rifles have been earlier banned by the Federal Government, hence the importation was totally illegal.
