Known for running a thriving Food Bank in his Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, has made a case for establishing Foodbanks in the society when he recently told pressmen that Nigeria would need more food banks to assist the vulnerable people to tackle hunger.

Benson, who said he had introduced the iCare FoodBank initiative to feed the vulnerable people within his constituency, added that the intervention was part of the Sustainable Development Goals that nobody should be hungry.

He stated that the project was aimed at reaching 500 beneficiaries monthly, adding that about 15,000 families had benefited from the initiative since its inception.

Benson said,

 

 

“The essence of this project is to feed the vulnerable people because there are a lot of people among us who cannot afford a meal in a day.

 

“They always say before value can be added to anybody, one needs to put food in their stomach so as to enable them to listen to you.

 

 

“If you look at America with a GDP of about $16tn, it has over 1,000 food banks. Even London alone has over 2,000 food banks. But Nigeria with a huge population has a few food banks. We need more.
