COVID19 Lockdown: Funke Akindele, JJC Pleads Guilty In Court
Funke Akindele Bello and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello moments ago pleaded guilty to a one count charge against them by Lagos State Attorney General.
The Lagos State Police Command through the State Attorney General had charged the couple to court over organising party during a state wide lock down on Saturday, April 4th and posted same on the social media.
It will be recalled that Funke was on Sunday evening arrested by Police officers from the State CID, Panti. Her husband who was not at home at the time of the arrest later surrendered himself to the Police about 2am on Monday, April 6th.
The couple were charged to the Magistrate Court, Ikeja where a single charge was read against them. A source disclosed to BlackBox Nigeria that the couple has pleaded guilty to the charge and currently waiting for the Magistrate verdict.
The charge sheet reads, “That you (1) Funke Akindele (2) Abdulrasheed Bello on 4th day of April, 2020 at 9, Gbadamosi Close, Amen Estate, Ibeju Lekki in the Lagos State Magisterial District gathered at the aforementioned address with over twenty persons contrary to the social distancing directives of Mr Governor of Lagos State made pursuant to Regulation 8(1)[a]&17(1)[i] of the Lagos State Infectious Disease (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020 and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law Cap P16 Vol 9 Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
The couple were arraigned for breaching the Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020 (the Regulations) which prescribes a jail term of one month or N100,000 fine or both for persons found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order.
It reads in part, “Where there is a violation of a close down or stay at home order, security Agencies shall have the power to arrest without warrant and may detain any person who violates the close down or stay at home order for at least 48 hours.
“Where the arrested person is found guilty, the person is liable to a fine of N100,000.00 or one-month imprisonment or three months Community service.”
