A yet to be identified Nigerian Army officer has reportedly killed a youth simply identified as Joseph Pessu in Warri, Delta State.

According to an eyewitness who spoke with BlackBox Nigeria, the soldier who had sighted Joseph who was said to be on his way to a nearby fueling station to get petrol gave him a chase and shot at him. It was learnt that the first shot hit the Joseph’s left arm and fell. He was later shot at close range afterwards which later took his life.

Sensing danger, the soldiers at the check point took to their heels abandoning helpless Joseph in pool of his own blood.

It was reported that the State Government had instructed the soldiers to make sure residents of Warri obey the stay at home order given in order to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The video sent by the eyewitness showed moments after the shooting, when residents came out in anger and destroyed one of the trucks belonging to the soldiers. He said the incident got the residents angry as the victim, Joseph was a peace loving individual in the community.

As at the time of filing this report, enquiries sent to the Delta State Governor’s office are yet to be responded to.
