The Court of Appeal in Lagos has affirmed the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, dismissing the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Mr. Abdulazeez Adediran.

PM News reported that the court upheld the decision of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had previously confirmed Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

Justice Mikhail Abdullahi, in his ruling, stated that Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, were qualified to contest the election under section 177 of the Constitution.

The judge emphasized that both candidates were members of political parties and met the educational requirements.

The court found that the appellants failed to substantiate their allegations of forgery and non-qualification against Sanwo-Olu and his deputy.

“Though they were all pre-election matters, the appellants, PDP and its candidate, Adeniran, still failed to prove them.

“The appellants came empty-handed and left empty-handed.

“Their petition lacked merit and is dismissed,” the court held.

Justice Abdullahi therefore declared them duly elected and dismissed the petition.
