A Federal High Court, Abuja has refused to grant the bail plea of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu was re-arraigned on an amended 15-count charge bordering on treasonable felony, filed against him by the Federal Government.
Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, Justice Binta Nyako held that the court must first determine the real reason the embattled separatist leader jumped the bail application he got in 2017, before applying for another one.
The presiding judge then dismissed the application for bail moved by Kanu’s lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome, SAN.
Following a review of 15 counts, she held that about eight of the counts appeared to be similar and did not disclose action.
She ordered that counts six, seven, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 should be struck out, while the defendant is to stand trial on counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15.
Nyako also ruled that the order proscribing IPOB as a terror group still subsisted until it was vacated since the issue was still on appeal.
