An Ilorin Magistrate Court has on Tuesday adjourned until August 6, 2026, the hearing of a direct criminal complaint filed against social media influencer and blogger, Ifagbemiro Olamigoke Adewola, popularly known as Bennylee.
The complaint was brought by the Registered Incorporated Trustees of the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation, which accused the influencer of offences including inciting disturbance, insulting or inciting contempt of a religious creed, injuring or defiling a place of worship, and injurious falsehood.
According to the complainant, the alleged offences are contrary to Sections 114, 210, 211 and 393(1) of the Penal Code Law, Cap P4, Laws of Kwara State.
The foundation alleged that Bennylee published on his Facebook, X, TikTok and YouTube accounts a photograph depicting a clay pot containing boiled eggs and palm oil placed on a copy of the Holy Qur’an.
The image was accompanied by a Yoruba caption which the complainant claimed was offensive to Islam and the Holy Qur’an.
The complainant further alleged that the post sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, with comments that were capable of inciting religious tension and disrupting public peace.
It urged the court to initiate criminal proceedings against the defendant.
When the matter came up before the Magistrate Court in Ilorin on Tuesday, both the complainant and the defendant were represented by counsel.
Following proceedings, the court adjourned the case to August 6, 2026, for further hearing.
The allegations remain before the court, and no findings have been made on the merits of the case. Bennylee has not been convicted of any offence, and the court is yet to determine the complaint.
