Is this the end of the road for Mr Mugabe’s long hold to power?

Yes, there has been a military intervention in Zimbabwe bringing to an end the 35-year old rule of Robert Mugabe.

BlackBox Nigeria further gathers that that the ousted President has been placed on house arrest while his wife, Grace is on the run.

Although the military boys claim it is not a coup or takeover of government, their real intentions however remain unknown.

Here are 10 things you need to know about the most recent palace coup in the world…

  1. The military took over control of power in Zimbabwe after placing on house arrest, President Robert Mugabe and some unnamed top government officials.
  2. The military has also taken control of the Zimbabwean Broadcasting Corporation where they declared their take over.
  3. The military in a statement says they are targeting criminals who were around Mugabe.
  4. President Mugabe’s 52-year-old wife, Grace has reportedly fled to neighboring Namibia.
  5. The military intervention is coming one week after President Mugabe sacked his Vice President, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
  6. Emmerson Mnangagwa was allegedly opposed to Mugabe making his wife, Grace his successor which pitched both of them against each other. 
  7. Emmerson Mnangagwa earlier today returned to Zimbabwe as the coup gets more successful.
  8. 92-year-old Mugabe is however alive, sound and safe according to military forces. The embattled President has also spoken to his South African counterpart, Jacob Zuma who reveals that he (Mugabe) is fine.
  9. Zuma is set to send envoys to Zimbabwe to meet with the military officers and Mugabe’s camp.
  10. Uncertainty rents the air in capital, Harare and other cities as civilians are scared of violence erupting.
