The confirmation hearing of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu went on as scheduled and the man in the eye of the storm have painfully admitted that the anti-graft agency is also bedeviled by corruption.
This remark was made during his opening statements and was reiterated when he was asked to respond to questions from the Senators who where obviously not satisfied with his presentation.
Sen. Dino Melaye who has remained one of Magu’s critiques amongst many others in the Senate asked why the there were so many cases of corruption which remained unresolved as well as properties such as property title documents recovered by the EFCC found in the market as one of the recent recoveries made was later returned back to the owner after it was exposed.
Sen. Dino Melaye also queried the EFCC boss over another recent DSS report which the Senate received reaffirming the fact that Magu does not have the right qualities to lead the anti-corruption crusade of Mr. President owing to several cases alleged against Magu.
The Senators further asked Magu why there were so many media trials in the pages of newspapers rather than in the courts.
According to Sen. Olujimi the EFCC should desist from media trials so as to avoid exposing persons whom the courts may later pronounce innocent of whatever accusations.
Magu’s response appeared lethargic when responding to the DSS report as he claimed that there were two contradictory reports on him while he accused the DSS of not giving him fair hearing on the matter.
