Only for a stint of sheer luck, the two young men would have been victims of jungle justice by members of the community.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the two men, Babatunde, a Corp member currently undergoing his NYSC and Christopher whose identity couldn’t be immediately ascertained were allegedly nabbed in a sexual act.
According to a community leader who spoke with BlackBox Nigeria on condition of anonymity, the two boys were caught by a neighbour who quickly alerted and reported them to community youths in the relatively Muslim community. They were later apprehended and beaten up.
Our correspondent gathered that the men were beaten and were almost burnt alive before one of the youths suggested they were taken to the elders of the community to decide their fate. This degenerated in an argument among them and in the process the Corp member reportedly escape.
Although Kwara is not a full sharia state, the community insists the two alleged homosexuals must must be dealt with because their community is an Islamic town. It was later gathered that Christopher also escaped during the night and the whereabouts of both men remain unknown as at the time of filing this report.
Efforts to speak with relatives of the alleged homosexuals have also proved abortive so far as neighbours know very little about them. While Babatunde is a Yoruba from the South Western part of Nigeria, Christopher was described to either be from the South East or South South of the country according to a neighbour who doesn’t want his name mentioned for fear of victimisation in the community.

BlackBox Nigeria further learnt that the community head has placed a reward on whoever has information about the two alleged homosexuals who are now currently at large. Although this couldn’t be immediately confirmed, it was gathered that the community insists they must be punished while some religious atonement needs to be made to cleanse the community of the act which they claim has violated the sacredness of their village.
