As the polity gets heightened ahead of the 2023 presidential polls, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has named the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and 6 other Yoruba Muslims to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group stated this in a statement by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, reminding all political parties of its strict preference of a Yoruba Muslim presidential candidate.
According to the group, the selected individuals and other Yoruba muslims across board have distinguished themselves in various capacities previously in the country.
MURIC argued that no Yoruba Muslim in Nigeria’s history has occupied the positions of President or Vice President position since 1960, stressing that only 3 Yoruba christians have filled the two positions.
It further stated that no political party should have reasons for not selecting a Yoruba Muslim as its presidential candidate, adding that any defaulting party should not expect votes from Yoruba Muslims.
Meanwhile, the other 6 selected Yoruba Muslims include Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat; Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; JAMB Boss, Prof Ishaq Oloyede; Senator Fatai Buhari; Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; and Lagos State Home Affairs Commissioner, Dr Abdullateef Abdulhakeem.
