Following the ban of 6-time Ballon D’or Winner, Lionel Messi from the Barcelona training ground days ago, the Argentine has decided to append his signature to stay at the club for another 5 years.

According to Daily Mail, he concluded contract talks with Barcelona and will, therefore, stay at the club until 2026. This means that he will remain at the Nou Camp until he’s nearly 40.

The 34-year-old’s deal expired at the end of June. Now, it has been confirmed that he has agreed to new terms according to SPORT- claims that negotiations have been finalized.

With this development, there is a possibility of Barcelona reducing their wage bill in order to accommodate Messi’s new contract and ensure the same is done with LaLiga.

Officially, an announcement is to be made soon after a breakthrough was made in talks on Monday with Messi’s father Jorge.

Messi has been involved in contracts talk with the club for months concerning contract extension and this aforementioned news will come as a relief to Barcelona supporters.

As a result of Barcelona’s plummeting financial status, Messi had to take a 50% pay deduction from his previous deal, which was worth in excess of £425million over 4 years. This means that the Copa America Cup Winner’s earnings will be slashed by £250,000 every week on his new five-year contract.
