In what appeared shocking to residents of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, students of Idogbo Secondary School situated in the area went beserk and burnt down a section of their school.
The incident was captured in a video that surfaced on social media on Tuesday, as these students were seen vandalising the principal’s office.
Report has it that a policeman on duty in the school was also harrassed by the angry students.
Vanguard newspaper reported that the incident happened last Friday when a student had an altercation with one of the security operatives invited to maintain law and order in the school. During their exchange, other rampaging students overpowered the policeman.
Quoting a source in the school, the newspaper added that presence of security personnel was due to the security breaches in the school which have since become a norm.
The police spokesperson in the state, Bello Kontongs confirmed that 49 students are currently in custody, adding that none of them have been charged to court yet.
