Comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has issued a heartfelt public apology to Afrobeats sensation Davido.
This apology follows a controversial joke made by AY during his performance in Warri, which had caused a stir on social media.
The joke revolved around Davido’s personal life, specifically addressing the singer’s multiple baby mamas.
AY’s comment, delivered during his show, didn’t sit well with many netizens, who deemed it insensitive and inappropriate.
In the viral video, AY remarked,
“Davido, with his small prick, dey give people belle, belle, belle, belle. With my big Warri prick, 13 years belle no come.”
The backlash was swift, prompting AY to take to his official Instagram page to issue a formal apology.
In his apology, AY expressed remorse for the poorly received joke, acknowledging that it was a mistake and not in line with his usual comedic style.
He further acknowledged Davido’s right to be upset over how the media had amplified the incident.
He wrote: “I am so sorry for telling that joke the way it came out in Warri. I shouldn’t even call it a joke anymore. It wasn’t funny like it was during my tour of Canada and US and you have every right to be angry after seeing how the blogs used it.
“Please know that it is always a learning experience for all of us in the entertainment business. I deserve any backlash coming my way for the joke that was badly delivered. No excuses at all, my Aburo. No reason am. I remain your number one fan, and I love you, @davido.
Davido, showing grace, responded to AY’s apology by commenting, “Nothing spoil baba mi,” indicating that he had accepted the comedian’s apology and was ready to move past the incident.
This episode serves as a reminder of the impact of words in the entertainment industry and the importance of being mindful of the boundaries of humor in public performances.
