The City Boy Movement (CBM) has inaugurated ward executives across the Lagos East Senatorial District, putting its grassroots structure in place as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration, coordinated by Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA and Lagos East Senatorial Coordinator of the movement, covers wards across Somolu, Kosofe, Ikorodu, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki.
The development comes as political parties and support groups begin strengthening their structures ahead of the 2027 elections, with Lagos East emerging as an important battleground because of its large voter base and the concentration of several politically significant communities.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Lagos East had 1,262,673 registered voters and 2,002 polling units across 71 registration areas in the 2023 general election. The district comprises the five LGAs listed above.
In the 2023 presidential election, APC candidate Bola Tinubu polled 149,667 votes in Lagos East, while Labour Party candidate Peter Obi recorded 118,348 votes and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar scored 19,565 votes. The figures underscored the district’s sizeable contribution to the overall Lagos vote.
The senatorial contest also demonstrated the political weight of the district. APC’s Tokunbo Abiru won the 2023 Lagos East senatorial election with 178,646 votes, defeating PDP’s Nicholas Akobada, who scored 80,249 votes.
Against this background, the CBM inauguration represents more than the installation of ward officials. It gives the group a network of grassroots operatives across a district containing thousands of polling units, positioning it to participate in voter mobilisation, political communication and campaign activities ahead of the elections.
Speaking at the ceremony, Gbadebo-Alogba described the inauguration as the completion of the movement’s grassroots structure in Lagos East, saying the organisation now has executives in every ward within the district.
She said the movement was created to support the APC and promote President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, while charging the new executives to take the group’s message to communities across the district.
She also identified voter mobilisation, PVC collection, house-to-house engagement and participation in APC ward and local government meetings as key responsibilities of the newly inaugurated executives.
The development comes at a time when the 2027 electoral process is already formally underway.
INEC issued the Notice of Election and timetable for the 2027 general elections in February 2026, with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.
For Lagos East, the political contest will extend beyond presidential politics to the Senate, House of Representatives and other elective positions, making the district’s ward-level structures particularly relevant as parties and political movements seek to translate support into votes at polling-unit level.
The inauguration therefore places the City Boy Movement’s Lagos East operation firmly in the emerging 2027 political mobilisation, with the group declaring its intention to work across every ward and polling unit in the district.
