Gunshots rocked Agodi-Gate area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, after some Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officers allegedly harassed a local government chairman and some of his aides.

It was gathered that the officers allegedly slapped Mr. Shuaib Yusuf Oladayo, the Chairman of Ibadan North Local government area on the protest ground when he went to calm and address the protesting youths.

It all began when some youths, who were protesting against the killing of a teenager in the area, blocked off major streets and roads in Ibadan.

According to reports, they blocked Mokola road, parliament road and Secretariat road for some hours to make their voices heard.

The slapping of the council boss, which almost immediately saw reactions from his aides, resulted into sporadic gunshots which rang in the air for some minutes.

However, what led to the violence hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Sporadic gunshots can be heard from a viral video in circulation on social media since the incident.

Meanwhile, there has been no official statement from the police as at time of filing this report.
