CBN Yet to Publish Financial Statements Since 2022

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has yet to publish its annual financial statements since releasing its 2022 report, despite legal provisions requiring the apex bank to make its audited accounts public every year.

A check of the CBN’s official website on Thursday showed that the 2022 annual report and financial statements remain the most recent documents available, according to Dailypost.

Under Section 50 of the CBN Act, the bank is required to prepare audited annual accounts, submit them to the President and the National Assembly within two months after the end of each financial year, and publish them thereafter.

The Act also mandates the CBN Board to ensure the accounts are published in the Federal Government Gazette as soon as possible.

The absence of publicly available financial statements for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 financial years has raised concerns over compliance with the law.

Commenting on the development, financial analyst Kalu Aja wrote on X that the CBN, which requires commercial banks to file annual returns, had not published its own annual report and statement of accounts since 2022.

In August 2023, the apex bank released consolidated financial statements covering seven years, from 2016 to 2022, marking its first such publication since 2015.
