CBN Reaffirms ‘Healthiness’ Of Skye Bank After Take Over

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has assured depositors of Skye Bank Plc of the safety of their deposits as it said that it has not liquidated the bank or any other bank. This is coming after the recent take over and change of board by the nation’s apex bank. Many of the banks customer had panicked in withdrawing all their with funds with the bank while thinking it was going on liquidation.

CBN’s Director of Communication, Isaac Okoroafor, in a statement condemned what he called de-marketing messages in circulation claiming that the bank is distressed. The apex bank said, “The CBN wishes to state, and emphatically so, that it has not liquidated Skye Bank or any other Deposit Money Bank for that matter. The bank also wishes to reiterate its earlier assurance that Skye Bank is not in distress and remains a healthy bank in the Nigerian banking system, adding that the health of the Nigerian banking system remains strong.

The apex bank said the corporate governance challenge that the Skye Bank experienced recently was not enough to render it insolvent adding that the CBN has okayed its efforts to reposition itself.
