President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu to resolve the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in two weeks.
Buhari gave the directive at a meeting with the Minister and other stakeholders involved in the negotiations with the striking lecturers, on Tuesday.
According to reports, a source at the meeting disclosed that Adamu is expected to report back to the president on the issue in two weeks.
The source added that the president also directed that the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige must be present in any meetings held to resolve the crisis.
In the same vein, Buhari directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, to be part of the team to engage with the striking unions.
Since February, ASUU has been on strike while other workers’ unions in the universities later commenced their own industrial action.
The other university unions on strike include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) the Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Educational Institutions (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
