BREAKING: INEC Cries Out As Officials Are Held Hostage In Bayelsa

Some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were taken hostage by unknown assailants in the Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Sunday, according to a statement by the commission.

This was revealed through the INEC official X handle on Sunday.

The commission said it was monitoring the situation in Brass LGA, where its officials were conducting election duties, and urged the security agencies to intervene and free them.

The commission denounced the hostage-taking as a threat to credible elections and appealed to the police and other security forces to act swiftly.

The commission wrote, “The Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area.

“The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where our officials are held hostage.

“This is detrimental to credible elections. We call on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release.”
