BREAKING: House of Representatives Member Oriyomi Onanuga Dies at 59
Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, has passed away at the age of 59.
Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State, died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness. Her death was confirmed in an official statement from the Office of the House Spokesman, which expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the respected lawmaker.
A member of the House since 2019, Onanuga was known for her dedication to public service and her advocacy for women’s empowerment. She served as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development during the 9th Assembly and was re-elected in 2023, taking on the role of Deputy Chief Whip in the 10th Assembly.
Born on December 2, 1965, Onanuga’s contributions to legislative development and her unwavering commitment to her constituents earned her widespread admiration. Colleagues described her as a visionary leader who embodied humility, intellect, and a passion for social progress.
