Breaking! Delta State Lawmakers Impeach Speaker Over Financial Crimes, Appoint Replacement

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Ovwigho Igbuya has been impeached by members of the House, and appointed the lawmaker representing Okpe constituency, Sheriff Oborevwori as the new Speaker.

It was gathered that the impeachment took place at early hours of Thursday and the impeachment notice was signed by twenty two from twenty nine lawmakers of the Assembly.

The Speaker was impeached over allegations of financial misappropriation and highhandedness.

Sources say his impeachment was allegedly sponsored by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Michael Diden, a.k.a, Ejele who allegedly splashed money on other members of the House to accomplish the ‘dirty’ political job.

Others say the impeachment of Hon Igbuya may not be unconnected with the threat he allegedly handed down to opposition lawmakers in the House to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP or forfeit the constituency project funds in their possession.

It was gathered that the sitting started about 7:06am which was against the usual 10am for sitting by the House, and was fully attended by members excluding the impeached principal officers who were absent.

The lawmakers also suspended the impeached speaker for three months while the former Majority Leader who has now been replaced by Mr Johnson Erijo was however handed an indefinite suspension.

At the end of the sitting, the new Speaker and other members however proceeded to Government House to intimate the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, of the changed in the house leadership.
