The EFCC has been ordered by an FCT High Court in Abuja to release former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, from its custody with immediate effect.

The court granted Emefiele’s Motion Ex-parte, which sought his release pending the hearing of his case.

Emefiele is facing charges of corruption and money laundering and has been in EFCC detention since October 30, 2023.

He filed the motion through his lawyer, asking the court to order his release or allow him to apply for bail.

Justice O.A. Adeniyi, who heard the motion, ordered the EFCC and its Chairman to comply with the court order and release Emefiele unconditionally and forthwith.

The court also said they should bring him to court on the next hearing date if they fail to do so.

The court fixed November 6, 2023, at 1pm as the date for the hearing of the substantive motion on notice.

The motion will determine whether Emefiele has a prima facie case to answer or not.

The respondents in the case are the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the AGF, the EFCC Chairman, and the EFCC itself.
