- voters pledge support for Governor Sanwo-Olu, other APC candidates
Ahead of the gubernatorial and state assembly elections, the Director-General Lagos State Sports Commission, Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan has intensified campaign for the ruling party, All Progressives Congress.
The cerebral sports administrator and brand expert, over the weekend, activated a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) movement in an effort to achieve 120,000 votes for the party within Ikorodu at Saturday’s polls.
Accompanied by his support group, the DG met with the representatives of North Central indigenes living in Ikorodu to canvass for votes for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other APC candidates.
The leader of the group, Chief Gideon Boar who spoke on behalf of his people promised that they would vote massively to support Governor Sanwo-Olu and other candidates of the APC in Ikorodu Division.
Bolowotan further took the campaign message to the grand finale of the Renewed Hope Football Challenge organized for the APC presidential, gubernatorial, Senatorial and House of Assembly candidates at the Police barracks field, Igbogbo road, Ikorodu.
The football challenge which was sponsored by Bolowotan had six clubs drawn from the 5 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) participated, namely; Team Bola Ahmed Tinubu (Team BAT), Team Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Team Tokunbo Abiru, Team Babajimi Benson (Team JB), Team Gbolahan Ogunleye (Team OGA) and Team Aro Moshood Abiodun (Team AMA). The finale also had in attendance Rep Babajimi Benson who also urged everyone to give their votes to the APC.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) movement on met with market leaders in Ikorodu West LCDA, where Bolowotan urged the market men and women to support the efforts of the government in doing more for the people.
He disclosed that the process starts with the re-election of Governor Sanwo-Olu and ensuring that the lawmakers that would represent Ikorodu at the state assembly are also the APC candidates.
The team further met with leaders of the Nigerian Automobile Technician Association at the Mechanic Village, Agric, Ikorodu where the artisans were urged to give their support to the APC by coming out en-masse to vote for Mr Governor and the assembly candidates.
Bolowotan and his team further moved to Ajaguro in Ikorodu West LCDA to meet with Grinders’ Association (Egbe Elero), CDA leaders, youths and other concerned voters. He again appealed to the people to come out in their numbers to vote the APC on Saturday so there will be continuity in the good governance currently being enjoined in the state.
The GOTV team ended their Monday movement at Majidun where they met with representatives of localities including; Ewenla, Oshodi, Loya, Ayagbo, Araromi, Olufunke, Kunle Dipo communities.
While they all had requests ranging from drainage issues to electricity and water challenges, they also pledged to give their votes to the APC.
In response to some of their requests, Gafaar Bolowotan pledged to donate a borehole to the community and immediately made plans for the commencement of work. The excited people further prayed for Governor Sanwo-Olu while promising to troop out on Saturday to vote the APC at all levels.
On Tuesday, the Lagos Sports boss led his team to meet with the leaders of the Professional Carpenters and Furniture Makers Association of Nigeria. The meeting had in attendance; zonal chairmen, ex chairmen, the Ikorodu branch governor and his executives as well as the President of PCFA in Lagos who incidentally hails from Ikorodu.
The PCFA team welcomed Bolowotan and his campaign crew to a rousing hospitality while thanking him for previous support given to the association. They further pledged to get all their members across Ikorodu division as well as their families to vote the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the two APC candidates for the state house of assembly elections.
In appreciation for their continued support, Bolowotan donated a 10KVA generator to the association while promising even more robust relationship between the association and the government.
The GOTV team also met with leaders of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Ikorodu 2 in Oke Iriya area of Ikorodu. The community leaders who bared their minds on different germane issues however, promised to troop out with other members to vote the APC on Saturday.
Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan in a chat with newsmen disclosed that there will be no resting for his team until campaign deadline elapses as they intend to visit more communities and meet more voters.
He further said that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been good to Ikorodu and therefore, a massive turnout and even better result than that of the presidential election was the best way to appreciate him.
