Boat Mishap Leaves 3 Dead, 2 Missing In Lagos

The Lagos State Waterways Authority on Tuesday confirmed three people dead and two missing in a boat accident in the Irewe community, in Ojo, near Lagos.
LASWA General Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Oluwadamilola, stated in a press release that 13 passengers were however rescued.
He added that at about 6:10p.m yesterday, two boats, one coming from Ojo jetty, with 10 passengers and another coming from Irewe community with 8 passengers had a head-on-collision which left 3 dead, one adult and one child missing.
“Preliminary investigations by LASWA and LASEMA revealed that the incident was caused due to reckless driving as well as over-speeding on the part of both boat captains as one of them was not in the appropriate way.”
The LASWA boss further mentioned that upon the end of the investigation all those found wanting would be sanctioned accordingly.
He also enjoined the commuters and residents to remain calm as search and rescue operation is ongoing by relevant state agencies and local community who happened to be the first responders.
