Nollywood film Black Market has secured a second Guinness World Records title after attracting 51,258 people to its screening in Lagos.
Filmmaker Nora Awolowo announced the achievement in an email to supporters, confirming that the production had received official recognition for the largest audience at a film premiere, in addition to its earlier record for the largest attendance at a film screening.
The record-breaking event took place at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, on September 26, 2026.
Awolowo said the latest recognition followed the team’s efforts to organise the large-scale premiere, which brought together thousands of people to watch the film.
The filmmaker, who is currently in Kenya for work, said she was returning from a short break to share the news with supporters and celebrate the achievement.
She expressed appreciation to those who purchased tickets, volunteered, promoted the event and supported the production.
According to her, the achievement went beyond the film itself, describing it as an example of what could be accomplished through determination and the willingness to pursue ambitious ideas.
The latest title adds to the film’s earlier Guinness World Records achievement for the largest attendance at a film screening, for which 51,258 people were recorded.
The previous record for the largest attendance at a film screening was held by the Filipino film Felix Manalo, which attracted 43,624 people at the Philippine Arena in the Philippines in 2015.
Black Market is a crime thriller directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and written by Gimsay and Abdul Tijani-Ahmed. The film follows five market women involved in a cross-border smuggling operation whose activities take a dangerous turn after the daughter of one of them is kidnapped.
The cast includes Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Ibrahim Yekini, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok and Uzor Arukwe, among others.
In the email, Awolowo also announced support initiatives for emerging creatives following her appointment as a Canon Global Ambassador.
She said winners of a camera, gimbal and tripod giveaway had been announced on her X account, while seven people had been selected to receive professional camera support for their upcoming projects or productions.
Awolowo said the initiative was intended to help creatives who have stories to tell but lack access to the equipment needed to execute their projects.
The filmmaker also encouraged people who attended the premiere or watched the film afterwards to share their reviews and experiences on social media.
The announcement of the second record adds another international recognition to the Black Market premiere, which was organised as a large-scale film screening in Lagos.
