Big blow to Kwankwaso as Shekarau formally rejoins PDP

After parting ways with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau has officially rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Last week, Shekarau who joined the NNPP from the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a rift with incumbent governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, accused the NNPP presidential flagbearer, Rabiu Kwankwaso of betraying an agreement they both had.

Immediately, the ex-governor began his defection plans to the PDP which he dumped in 2018 over an internal party scuttle.

On Monday, he was formally received into the main opposition party in Kano State in the presence of stakeholders such as the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; his running mate and governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa; PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, among others.

Reacting to the development, Atiku expressed optimism that Shekarau will contribute greatly to the party’s bid to reoccupy Aso Rock in 2023.

“The @OfficialPDPNig family grew bigger today with the return of H.E Ibrahim Shekarau to our party. He surely will bring his wealth of experience and join hands with other party stakeholders to oust the APC and enthrone a new era of prosperity and good governance for Nigerians,” he wrote in a tweet.
