Benzema wins UEFA Player of the Year award

Real Madrid captain, Karim Benzema has clinched the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award for the 2021/2022 season.

The French forward beat his teammate, Thibaut Courtois and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne to win the prestigious award.

Benzema was presented with the coveted gong at at the award ceremony which took place on Thursday, at the Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul, Turkey, moments after the UEFA Champions League was concluded.

The 34-year-old was instrumental to Real Madrid winning their 14th Champions League trophy. With 15 goals for Los Blancos, he named UCL Player of the Season.

The Madrid captain also led the club to clinch the Spanish La Liga title, scoring 27 goals to emerge top scorer in the league.

On the international side, Benzema was also part of the French national side that won the UEFA Nations League.
