BBN Update: What we know about alleged disclaimer from Alaafin of Oyo’s palace about monarch’s death being a rumour

Following viral reports that foremost Nigerian monarch, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has joined his ancestors as earlier reported by BlackBox Nigeria, there has been an alleged press release from the palace of the king claiming the news was a rumor.

According to the statement reportedly signed by the Alaafin’s Media and Publicity Director, ‘Bode Durojaiye, Alaafin Adeyemi was hale and hearty and has not even fallen ill in recent times.

“The general public should not entertain any fear at all, as IKu Baba Yeye is healthy, physically fit and mentally stable,” the statement concluded.

BlackBox Nigeria can, however, confirm that the Palace of the Alaafin hasn’t released any statement since the death of the paramount ruler.

While the Alaafin appears to be actually dead, the statement is being shared on social media is a false report.

Our investigations reveal that the said press statement was released on December 30, 2021 by Mr. Durojaiye to debunk a story that had made the news about the monarch’s alleged demise.

Alaafin Adeyemi joined his ancestors hours ago but neither the palace nor the Oyo state government have made an official statement.
