Authorities shut Lagos airport over battered corpse on runway

In the early hours of Thursday, the international wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos was temporarily shut down after the battered body of a dead man was found on its runway.

According to The PUNCH, the identity of the corpse was yet to be ascertained, neither could the circumstances surrounding the incident be confirmed.

A team of officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force has since evacuated the corpse from the runway, thereafter shutting it down temporarily — leading to a diversion of flights at the airport’s international terminal.

Spokespersons of both FAAN and the police command in the airport were yet to issue formal statements on the incident, as at the time of filing this report.

A top official at the MMIA, however, confirmed the development to the development, saying the police authorities were called upon on the early hours of Thursday to evacuate the corpse from Runway ISR.

Meanwhile, the police have since launched an investigation into the identity of the dead man and other circumstances surrounding the incident.
