Barcelona striker, Pierre Aubameyang says he told Ousmane Dembele to stay at the club after failing to secure a move out of the Camp Nou.

The Arsenal outcast, who is currently enjoying stellar performance at the Catalan club, engaged Dembele in conversation over the Frenchman’s contract extension.

Having played together at Dortmund, Aubameyang expressed his delight to see Dembele again at the Camp Nou.

“To tell the truth, I am very happy that he is here and when I arrived I told him: ‘You have to stay, bro!’

“It is something very special [to play with him] because we had an incredible year in Dortmund and he is an incredible player. Ousmane is one of the best on the ball and as a striker he is incredible.

“I don’t know [if he’ll stay], but the only thing I can say is that everything is possible in life,” the Gabonese had said.

Unlike Dembele whose injury crisis shortchanged his playing time, Aubameyang fell out of favour from the Arsenal squad, losing not just his place but his captaincy as well. Having fallen out with Mikel Arteta’s disciplinary breach, the Gabonese, according to 90Min, had his contract with Arsenal terminated by mutual consent.

Meanwhile, his move to Barcelona has started yielding positive results which was evident in his performance against Valencia last weekend where he bagged his first hat-trick in Barcelona’s shirt. The match saw Aubameyang flaunted by Ferran Torres to the left and Osumane Dembele to right — a combination which secured Xavi’s men a comfortable 4-1 victory.

Both Aubameyang and Dembele are likely to team up again on Thursday when Barcelona will face Napoli for the Europa League second leg clash of the knockout round play-off. The Catalan giant were forced to a draw in the first leg at Camp Nou.
