Wizkid has once again stretched his continued dominance in the Nigerian music industry and beyond with his emergence as the Artiste of the Year at the Soundcity MVP Awards in 2016.
The singer, who practically relocated abroad for back-to-back shows and other events for the better part of the year, is currently observing a rest following his doctors advice that he should take a break from music.
Barely a week after winning Artiste of the Year at the recently concluded Headies Awards, the StarBoy Records owner proved that he was not done winning as he stormed the stage to receive his Artiste of the Year award in style.
In a category that had Yemi Alade, Olamide, Diamond Platnumz of Tanzania and Sarkodie of Ghana, expectations were high as many people had concluded that the battle was between YBNL boss, Olamide and Wizkid.
Wizkid was said to have been considered for the awards following his international breakthroughs in 2016, one that saw him collaborate with Canadian rapper, Drake, on his One Dance track, whose album ‘Views’has earned him a nomination at the forthcoming Grammy award.
The event, held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on Thursday had artistes from different African countries in attendance.
