The Nigerian Army has released Private Hannah Sofiat Akinlabi, a female soldier who was detained for accepting a marriage proposal from a male corps member at the Yikpata orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kwara State.
Akinlabi had landed in trouble after video clips of her lovey-dovey moments with her boyfriend surfaced online.
The military authorities condemned her action, saying she violated several of their rules of engagement and listed her offences to include fraternisation while on official duty and indulging in romance while in uniform.
According to reports, the female soldier was released on Saturday, following the intervention of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya who asked that she should be pardoned.
Spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, also confirmed the development to PRNigeria.
“I can confirm to you that an order has been made for the soldier to be freed and enjoy the Christmas with her family and friends with a serious warning for her not to repeat such act again,” he said.
